new-to-me albums I listened to, 2010 edition

for the fourth year in a row, I am publishing the results of a script that tells you what I listened to most across my Apple branded music players, that was added to the list over the course of the year. You can get the ruby code yourself

  1. This City is Killing Me, Dusty Brown Great EP, fantastic synth work, fantastic vocals, free download.

  2. Londinium, Archive sure, it was released in 1997. Doesn’t make it any less awesome. A must for fans of Portishead.

  3. Drink the Sea, The Glitch Mob This album helped me get through the most intense month of my life (August). A must if you’re into electro.

  4. 23, Blonde Redhead

  5. Misery is a Butterfly, Blonde Redhead
  6. 24 Postcards in Full Color, Max Richter
  7. Songs from Before, Max Richter I listened to these albums a lot during the dull and dreary Portland spring, when my own mood matched the weather perfectly, and the melancholy of this music matched perfectly.

  8. The ArchAndroid, Janelle Monae If you like pop-ish R&B, which I will admit a guilty pleasure for (I still throw on Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Off The Wall from time to time), you must check this album out. Despite being a concept album and all over the map stylistically, each song holds its own and the writing and performances are spot on.

  9. Cave Story, Studio Pixel a soundtrack to a retro-style videogame in the style of Super Metroid. The soundtrack is very NES-inspired, and great.

  10. 3:47 EST, Klaatu The album is pretty decent, but I’ve listened to the final track The Little Neutrino maybe three dozen times. It takes me to a really happy place.

  11. Disconnect from Desire, The School of Seven Bells I wasn’t that big of a fan of Alpinisms, prefering Prefuse 73’s collaboration/remix album The School of 73 Bells. Disconnect from Desire is however a great album.

  12. Brothers, The Black Keys I’ll readily admit that I don’t like this album as much as Attack and Release, but am starting to warm up to it.
